Signed by the Dodgers as an undrafted free agent in 2023, the nearly 21-year-old slugger has enjoyed a breakout campaign at Single-A Ontario, slashing .297/.403/.644 with 37 home runs, 26 doubles, and 112 RBI in 109 games. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Shelton is a physical specimen with legitimate plus power. He generates easy carry to all fields and consistently drives the baseball with authority. He demonstrates a solid feel for the strike zone, walking at a 15% rate while showing the ability to recognize and adjust to off-speed pitches. Swing-and-miss can be an issue, as evidenced by his 34% strikeout rate, and improving his bat-to-ball skills will be key as he progresses through the Dodgers’ system.
Shelton has primarily played first base but has also experimented at third base, where he has flashed good mobility, receptive hands, and above-average arm strength. His athleticism gives him a chance to provide some defensive versatility despite a profile largely driven by his bat.
Next season should provide a significant test as Shelton faces more advanced pitching. If the hit tool continues to progress and he can make the necessary adjustments, he projects as a run-producing corner infielder with legitimate middle-of-the-order upside.
